Welcome to the S.I.B.-Nederland Foundation

The SIB-Nederland Foundation is known in English as the Dutch United Nations Student Associations (DUNSA). Four student associations located in Amsterdam, Groningen, Leiden, and Utrecht constitute our organization. The original national association was founded in 1947 with branches in Leiden and Groningen. Our organization is politically neutral, does not have any religious affiliations, though it does endorse the UN Charter. Our main goal is to enlarge knowledge and understanding of international issues among young people.

Activities

The four student associations organise lectures on international relations, excurtions, trips to foreign cities and all kinds of simulations of conferences. Once a year a Model United Nations is organised in The Hague, in which students from all over the world participate. Many interesting speakers have been so kind to speak for our association. Many of them are well-known national or international political and cultural figures. In the past our guest lecturers have included: Wim Kok (former prime minister of the Netherlands), Jaap de Hoop Scheffer ( Secretary-General NATO), Margot Wallström (European Commissioner) and Gretta Duisenberg (activist & wife of the former president of the European Central Bank). We also have excelelt contacts with the Corps Diplomatique. For instance, every year a symposium is organised where our students are able to meet and discuss political issues with a host of ambassadors in an informal setting.

Becoming a member

The DUNSA Foundation itself does not have any members, but the branch associations of course do. If you would like to become a member please contact your local branch. The branches are steadily becoming more and more internationally oriented with many English-language lectures and international student activity committees.
